Building Typology - Anchorage Plaza Research

Anchorage Plaza - Project Information and Research Typology.

What Information can be found to further analyze what type of building can be built at Anchorage plaza.

Q. Which building typology are you researching?

A. To begin what building typology is "(in urban planning and architecture) is the taxonomic classification of characteristics commonly found in buildings and urban places, according to their association with different categories, such as intensity of development."(WikiLinks)In that case, the building typology I've decided to research is a restaurant with night life, culinary school and market (Hospitality, Educational & Outdoor).

Q. Why are you researching this building typology?

A. Anchorage plaza is sitting underneath the start of the Brooklyn Bridge. The site is practically a gateway to connecting Brooklyn's culture to Manhattan's culture; with that, I want to design a restaurant that will bring out the culture that the area already has and have one gathering point to dine and enjoy the captivating views while eating a fine course meal. Japanese food has been the craze and admiration for New York City as a whole. With its sushi, its hibachi, ramen, and all different sort of fine courses bringing that drive and success to a thriving and rich neighborhood of downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights will carry this project even further.

Q. What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research?

A. Specialty of this building is imperative to this design, which is why I've decided to research diversification. Diversification is important especially to my research because of the rich history that downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights has.

Q. What are the examples that you will be researching?

Market/Outdoor Activities:

Q. What are you goals for working with this building type?

A. My goals for working with this building type is so that I bring everyone that already visits downtown Brooklyn to enjoy something refreshing and exciting. With the thrive of Japanese cuisine and the overwhelming popularity in Manhattan; bringing a high class Japanese restaurant with a market place will bring all the different cultures of all boroughs and unite them at one place and bring revenue to the site. With that being said, my main focus that will drive this project is bringing the already thriving art and culture to new levels of diversification and to expand that knowledge in learning the art of creating fantastic cuisine.

Q. What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building?

A. The program elements that I would like to see develop are parks, market place, space of interaction before entering the restaurant, the actual restaurant, a culinary school above the restaurant and specific areas for night life through out the seasons. As the project develops more programs will be brought to life.

  1. Although jumping into the commentary late, one would be remiss to not proffer the caution to take all input and thoughts in stride...and then make sure not to be to pedantic in one's approach. Otherwise, a great first effort.
